Achari Chicken Masala

Achari chicken  or pickled  chicken is delicious  dish which pairs well with roti rice or naan/paratha..If you are a fan of pickle you are sure going to love this.
Achari chicken as name suggests is chicken cookedin pickle spices..The pickle masala is added to the chicken along with other spices and cooked till done.Its full of flavours and taste absolutely delish.

1/2 kg chicken
2 tomatoes
2 med onions
1/4cup curd whisked
1 1/2  tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
3 to green chillies
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
Turmeric powder  1/ 2 tsp
Ginger juliennes 1 tbsp
1 tsp pickle oil *(optional)
Salt to taste.

Methi seeds 1/ 4 tsp
Kalonji/Nigella seeds 1/tsp
Fennel seeds/saunf 1 /2 tsp
2 red chilli dry


  • Dry roast and coarsely grind the chilli fennel methi seeds and kalonji
  • Marinate chicken pieces with salt ginger garlic paste, curds,turmeric powder and the coarse powder of fennel etc.
  • Marinate for  1 to 2 hours.
  • Heat oil  in a kadhai/pan add onions and saute over medium flame.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell goes off
  • Add chopped onion and saute till  it turns soft and translucent
  • Now add chopped tomato and cook till mushy
  • Add 1 tsp pickle oil * and the slitted green chilles.
  • Add the marinated chicken and mix well
  • Cook on medium flame till the chicken releases oil.
  • The chicken will leave its water add 1/2 cup if required. 
  • Cover with lid and let it cook till done.
  • Garnish with ginger juliennes and coriander.
